Scalper Ribbon for TradingView

Scalper Ribbon indicator on a TradingView chart showing a smoothed oscillator ribbon with midline, neutral zone, and trend coloring

The Scalper Ribbon is a TradingView indicator that combines 6 oscillators — price action, momentum, RSI, and more — into a single smoothed trend strength line with a moving average. Built for scalpers who want a clean read on bullish or bearish conditions without oscillator noise.

The indicator offers two calculation modes. The original and a newer “Smooth” mode that provides a cleaner signal and can output its trend direction to other indicators for use as a trend filter.

UNDER THE HOOD

Core Features

Multi-Oscillator Trend Strength

The Scalper Ribbon combines 6 different oscillators including price action, momentum, and RSI into a single smoothed trend strength line with a moving average companion. The result is a clean oscillator that shows overall bullish or bearish conditions without the noise typical of individual oscillators.

Two Calculation Modes

The indicator offers two oscillator modes selectable in settings:

  • Original: The classic Scalper Ribbon calculation
  • Smooth: A newer calculation method that produces a cleaner, less noisy signal

The default is Smooth mode, optimized for 1-minute chart scalping. Switch between modes to see which best fits your trading style and preferred timeframe.

Visual Reading System

  • Midline (white line at 25): The ribbon is bullish when above the midline and bearish when below
  • Neutral Zone (two blue lines above and below midline): When the ribbon is in the neutral zone, expect indecision. Wait for it to break out or down from this range for continuation
  • Distance from neutral: The farther the ribbon is from the neutral zone, the stronger the trend
  • Color: Green = bullish, Red = bearish

Trend Direction Output

The indicator can send its trend direction to other indicators for use as a trend filter. Five output options are available:

  • Ribbon Direction Only
  • Ribbon Direction + Above/Below The Midline
  • Ribbon Direction + Above/Below The Neutral Zone
  • Above/Below The Midline Only
  • Above/Below The Neutral Zone Only

Other Trend Friend indicators with external filter inputs like the Swing Trade & Scalp Signals or Buy Sell Indicator can use this output to only generate signals when the Scalper Ribbon agrees with the direction.

HOW TO TRADE WITH IT

Trading Applications

Spotting Reversals

Find tops and bottoms of the market by watching for reversals in the ribbon when it reaches very high or very low extremes. When the ribbon is extended far from the neutral zone and begins to turn, this often signals a reversal before it shows up on the price chart.

Identifying Divergences

The Scalper Ribbon helps spot hidden divergences in price action before reversals happen. When price makes a new high but the ribbon makes a lower high (or vice versa), this divergence tells you the move is losing strength.

Avoiding Chop

When the ribbon is inside the neutral zone (between the blue lines), the market is indecisive. Avoid taking trades during this time. Wait for the ribbon to break out above or below the neutral zone before entering. This confirms that price is actually moving directionally rather than chopping sideways.

Confirming Entries at Support & Resistance

Pair the Scalper Ribbon with Supply and Demand or Volume Based Auto S&R. When price reaches a key level and the ribbon confirms the reversal direction by turning at an extreme, you get a higher-probability entry.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Original mode uses the classic Scalper Ribbon calculation from the initial release. Smooth mode is a newer calculation method that produces a cleaner, less noisy signal. Smooth mode is the default and is optimized for 1-minute chart scalping. Try both on your preferred chart and timeframe to see which fits your trading style best.
The neutral zone is the area between the two blue lines just above and below the midline. When the ribbon is inside this zone, the market is indecisive so expect choppy price action. Avoid taking trades when the ribbon is in the neutral zone. Wait for it to break out above or below the zone for confirmation that a directional move is underway.
Yes. The Scalper Ribbon outputs its trend direction with 5 configurable options from Ribbon Direction Only to Above/Below The Neutral Zone Only. Other Trend Friend indicators with external filter inputs, like Swing Trade & Scalp Signals, can use this output as a source to only generate signals when the Scalper Ribbon confirms the direction.
Watch for situations where price makes a new high but the ribbon makes a lower high, or where price makes a new low but the ribbon makes a higher low. These divergences tell you the price move is losing strength and a reversal may be close. Because the ribbon is smoothed, divergences are easier to spot than on raw oscillators.
The most effective pairings are with the Buy Sell Indicator for signal confirmation and Supply and Demand or Volume Based Auto S&R for identifying key price levels. Use the ribbon to confirm direction and momentum when signals arrive at significant support and resistance zones.
