What It Does

Core Features

A three-part volume detection system, spike arrows, growing volume backgrounds and an 8-ticker scanner, all colored by DMI buy/sell pressure with full alerts.

Volume Spike Arrows

When volume spikes above the long-term average (100+ bars, configurable) multiplied by your volume amount multiplier, an arrow appears on the chart. Green arrows indicate a bullish spike (DMI shows buying pressure). Red arrows indicate a bearish spike (DMI shows selling pressure). This catches the moments when large volume enters the market.

Growing Volume Background

The background paints green or red (based on DMI pressure) when the short-term volume average (last 5 bars, configurable) exceeds the long-term average and is greater than your multiplier, or when the volume moving average has increased for 3 consecutive bars. This tells you volume is building momentum and volatility is likely coming, even before a full spike occurs.

8-Ticker Volume Scanner

A scanner table monitors up to 8 additional tickers in real time. When no volume growth or spikes are detected, a ticker shows as light blue. When volume spikes or growth is detected, the ticker turns orange. You can customize all 8 tickers to monitor your favorite markets.

Alerts

You can set alerts for volume growth, bullish volume spikes and bearish volume spikes on any chart or timeframe.

Interpretation Guide

How to Trade With Volume Signals

Signal Types

When to Trade

Watch for volume to pick up before placing trades. This helps you stay out of the market when price is choppy. Volume usually brings volatility, so when signals start appearing after a big move or during consolidation, the market is ready to reverse or accelerate in the current direction. Use the scanner to monitor multiple markets for volume activity simultaneously.

Settings Per Ticker

Different tickers have different volume characteristics. Some have large swings and some stay relatively even. Set up separate chart layouts with settings that work for each ticker and save them individually so you don’t have to reconfigure every time you switch charts.

CONFIGURATION

Settings Overview

The indicator is highly customizable. Detailed tooltips in the settings explain each input.

Good To Know

Important Notes & Limitations

Settings need to be adjusted per ticker. Some markets have large volume swings while others stay relatively even. Save different chart layouts with settings tuned for each ticker.
Requires volume and DMI data from TradingView for the ticker. Tickers without volume data will not produce signals.
Requires enough historical data for TradingView to calculate the long-term volume average. Very new tickers or short timeframes with limited history may not produce accurate results.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

A volume spike is a single bar where volume exceeds the long-term average multiplied by your multiplier, it appears as an arrow. Growing volume is when the short-term average exceeds the long-term average or the volume MA has increased for 3 consecutive bars, it appears as a background color. Spikes are sudden, growth is building.
Arrow and background colors are based on DMI (Directional Movement Index). Green means DMI shows more buying pressure (DI+ > DI-). Red means more selling pressure (DI- > DI+). This tells you not just that volume spiked, but which side is driving it.
The scanner monitors up to 8 tickers for volume spikes or growing volume. Light blue means no activity detected. Orange means volume spikes or growth are happening on that ticker, check the chart for details.
Yes. Some tickers have large volume swings while others are relatively steady. Set up separate chart layouts with settings tuned for each ticker and save them individually so you don't have to reconfigure when switching charts.
It works on all markets including stocks, crypto, futures and forex, as long as TradingView has volume and DMI data for that ticker. It works on all timeframes with enough historical data for calculations.
