WHAT IT DOES

Core Features

VIX-based reversal signals for US stocks with adjustable sensitivity for both scalping and swing trading, a configurable VIX source and built-in inverse ETF detection.

VIX Trend Reversal Signals

When the VIX Volatility Index trend changes direction, the indicator plots a bull or bear signal on your chart. The VIX typically moves inversely to the stock market. When volatility drops, stocks tend to rally, and vice versa. Follow these signals when price is near support/resistance or fibonacci levels for the highest probability entries.

Adjustable Signal Sensitivity

The signal length controls how many signals you get and how early they appear. Lower values (10–100) give more frequent signals with earlier entries, best for scalping. Higher values (100–500) give fewer signals with later but more confirmed entries, better for swing trades. You can go even higher for long swing trades.

Configurable VIX Source & MA Type

You can change the symbol used for signals, allowing you to use a different stock that leads ahead of what you’re trading, a VIX from a different exchange, or a different country’s VIX. The moving average type used for signal generation is also configurable. The default was changed to RMA 10 as it provides more reliable signals than the original HMA 20.

Inverse ETF Support

Over 50 inverse ETFs are built into the code so the indicator automatically flips the signal direction on inverse charts. If you find an inverse ETF that shows backward signals, it can be added.

How to Trade With the VIX Scalper

Signal Types

Scalping vs. Swing Trading

For scalping, set the signal length to 10–100 for more frequent, earlier entries. For swing trading, set it to 100–500 for fewer, more confirmed entries. Always confirm signals with support/resistance, Fibonacci levels or other indicators. Don’t rely solely on this indicator for entries and exits.

CONFIGURATION

Settings Overview

The indicator has a focused set of options.

Main Settings

Setting Default Description

MA Type RMA The type of moving average used for signal generation. Default changed to RMA from HMA for more reliable signals.
Signal Symbol VIX The volatility index symbol used for signals. Can be changed to a different exchange's VIX, another country's VIX, or a leading stock.

GOOD TO KNOW

Important Notes & Limitations

US stocks only. This indicator uses real-time VIX data which measures US stock market volatility. It should only be used on US stocks. It works somewhat for crypto but will not give signals when the US stock market is closed.
Repainting can occur. Since the indicator is built for early entries, repainting happens infrequently but is possible. Preventing repainting would delay signals and reduce their usefulness for scalping.
The indicator may not give exit signals every time it should. Watch price action for entries and exits. Do not rely solely on this indicator.
Only gives a few signals during after-hours trading since VIX data is limited outside regular market hours.
